Handwashing That Fits Into Everyday Life
20/10/2026
Thorough handwashing is one of the simplest personal hygiene habits to practise at home and on the go.
Wet your hands, apply soap, and rub across palms, backs of hands, between fingers, thumbs, and under nails. Keep rubbing for around 20 seconds, then rinse well and dry with a clean towel or air dryer. Wash before preparing or eating food, after using the toilet, and whenever your hands are visibly dirty.
If soap and water are not available, use an appropriate hand sanitiser according to its label. Frequent washing can dry hands, so apply moisturiser when needed. Cover cuts with a clean dressing and seek advice if a wound becomes increasingly red, swollen, or painful.
